Western Executive Council Headed East for Ottawa Meeting with Ministers

On November 6, the Western Executive Council gathered in Ottawa to discuss the biggest issues businesses in Western Canada.

Members of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s Western Executive Council recently gathered in Ottawa to discuss the biggest issues businesses in Western Canada are facing, and the opportunities they see for growth and collaboration between the private sector and government.

On November 6, the Western Executive Council met with the President of the Treasury Board Anita Anand, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Disability Inclusion Randy Boissonnault, Deputy Minister of Finance Chris Forbes, and David Coletto, CEO of Abacus Data.

Several key topics were covered during this productive meeting with Ministers:

  • The need to re-evaluate the unintended consequences of current complex regulations and how they affect Canada’s competitiveness in the evolving global market.
  • The need to grow Western Canada’s value-added agriculture sector to provide for Canadians and trade allies in a time of growing global food and energy insecurity.
  • The need to commit to carbon capture and storage projects, carbon contracts for difference (CCfDs), and long-term major infrastructure projects that will allow us to decarbonize our energy sector.
  • The need to invest in critical trade infrastructure that will address both current and future needs, ensuring Canadian businesses can get reliably goods to and from market.

The Western Executive Council is a forum of Chief Executive Officers from a cross-section of companies who are committed to working with government to build a stronger Western Canadian economy, and by extension, a more successful and sustainable economy for all of Canada.
