Statement regarding the government’s freeze of the escalator tax on alcohol and spirits

Today, the federal government announced that it will freeze the escalator tax on alcohol and spirits.

Today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, and Minister of Small Business, the Honourable Rechie Valdez, announced a new initiative by the federal government to offer substantial relief from alcohol excise duties to Canadian businesses, particularly benefiting local craft breweries.

We welcome the government’s announcement to freeze the escalator tax on alcohol and spirits.

Today’s announcement will help provide relief to Canadians and struggling businesses, particularly in the hospitality sector.
