Former Alberta Premiers Kenney and Notley to Co-Chair Alberta and Canada: Stronger Together

Ottawa, ON – August 25, 2026 – The Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Canada’s largest and most activated business network, is pleased to announce that former Alberta premiers, the Honourable Jason Kenney and the Honourable Rachel Notley will co-chair Alberta and Canada: Stronger Together, a campaign bringing business and community leaders together around a shared commitment to Alberta’s prosperity and Canada’s economic future.

At a consequential moment for Alberta and the country, the campaign will make the economic case for a strong Alberta within a strong and united Canada, while advancing practical solutions to legitimate challenges facing the province.

“Both Premier Kenney and Premier Notley understand what’s at stake, and we’re honoured they’ve agreed to join businesses in this campaign,” said Candace Laing, President and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. “Prolonged uncertainty around constitutional or political separation brings real risks for investor confidence, economic growth and Canada’s competitiveness, at exactly the wrong time.”

Laing added, “With geopolitical and economic uncertainty reshaping global trade and investment, Canada will be only better off with greater economic cooperation – not less. Our democracy is strong and the best avenue to solve internal debates and face external threats.”

Alberta businesses have long raised concerns about Canada’s competitiveness, the pace and predictability of major project approvals, access to global markets and the need to attract investment. Stronger Together will create a platform for those concerns to be heard and addressed constructively, while demonstrating what Canadians can achieve when governments, businesses and communities work together.

“There are real and serious concerns in Alberta about competitiveness, investment and durable economic opportunities for generations to come,” added Laing. “Businesses are always ready to tackle Alberta’s barriers to economic success, and we believe Canada is too.”

While Premiers Kenney and Notley have distinct political perspectives, they have shared records of public service and the deepest sense of commitment to their home province. Their decision to serve together reflects a core promise they both know to be true: Alberta’s economic future is better off in Canada, rather than outside looking in.

Former Alberta Premier and federal Cabinet Minister Honourable Jason Kenney said, “Alberta and Canada are stronger together — and a more competitive, prosperous Alberta makes for a more competitive, prosperous Canada. The national business community represented by the Canadian Chamber is an integrated network of hundreds of thousands of businesses of all sizes who know Alberta’s interests and theirs go hand in hand. We’re ready to rally with facts and to make the case for a strong Alberta and a united Canada.”

The campaign will engage business leaders, chambers of commerce, community organizations and Canadians across the country in a constructive conversation about Alberta’s role in Canada and the policies needed to unlock greater investment and economic growth.

“This is a critical moment for Alberta to build the future we know the next generation deserves” said the Honourable Rachel Notley, former Premier of Alberta. “We need to be focused on building this province, growing job opportunities across the board, strengthening our healthcare system and vital programs that keep Alberta strong. Any distraction that takes us away from that focus is a missed opportunity for all of us.”

On behalf of co-chairs Notley and Kenney, as well as the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, business leaders from across the country are invited to contribute their perspective and help shape this discussion.
