Canadian Business Leadership Takes Centre Stage in Calgary
On September 17, business leaders from across the country gathered in Calgary to celebrate two individuals whose contributions have helped shape Canada’s economy and business community.

The Calgary stop of the 2026 Canadian Business Leader Awards Dinner honoured François Poirier, President and CEO of TC Energy, with the Canadian Business Leader of the Year Award, and Dr. Dave Werklund, Founder and Executive Chairman of the Werklund Family Office, with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
This year’s Calgary honourees included:
François Poirier
As President and CEO of TC Energy, François Poirier has helped position the company at the forefront of North America’s energy future. Under his leadership, TC Energy has advanced major infrastructure projects, strengthened cross-border collaboration and championed initiatives that support economic growth while creating meaningful opportunities for communities across the continent.
Dr. Dave Werklund
Dr. Dave Werklund’s career is a testament to entrepreneurship, vision and philanthropy. From his early days in Alberta’s energy sector to building one of Canada’s leading environmental services companies, his contributions have left a lasting mark on business, education and community development. Through decades of leadership and charitable giving, Dr. Werklund has helped create opportunities that continue to benefit Canadians across generations.
Our President and CEO, Candace Laing, welcomed guests and highlighted the value of recognizing leaders whose dedication and achievements continue to move Canada forward. The evening brought together business leaders, partners and stakeholders from across sectors to celebrate this year’s recipients and the impact they continue to have on Canada’s economic success. Entertainment was provided by the Swingsetters, a talented local group that has become a fixture at this event over the years.
