Energy Security Council

Ensuring Canada has a resilient, diverse and sustainable energy supply is critical to our nation’s economic and energy security.

The Council

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce and its members on the Energy Security Council are focused on shaping policies that ensure Canada maintains a resilient, diverse and sustainable energy supply capable of meeting our current and future needs.

With rising geopolitical tensions and aggravated supply chain challenges, developing reliable and affordable Canadian energy resources, including oil, natural gas, hydrogen, nuclear and clean technology, is critical to establishing and safeguarding our energy security and that of our trade partners.

The Council is an action-oriented, dynamic forum bringing together organizations from all energy sectors, including natural resources and utility companies, energy innovation, regulatory services and more. The Council aims to foster relationships with senior government officials to build trust, create dialogue, and offer advice and perspectives on how to grow, innovate and deliver Canadian energy to Canadians and other nations.

Policy Priorities

To strengthen bilateral energy partnerships, the Council will advocate for enhancing cross-border infrastructure, making joint investments in emerging energy technologies, and improving policy alignment.

To ensure affordable and reliable energy for Canadians while protecting consumers and industries, the Council will advocate for establishing smart regulatory frameworks, promoting energy efficiency programs, and investing in resilient infrastructure.

To ensure Canada’s competitiveness in global energy markets, the Council will advocate for expanding key trade relationships, innovating in clean energy technologies, and diversifying exports. These measures will help create stable energy supplies, foster economic growth and reinforce energy security across North America and beyond.

The Council will prioritize increasing awareness among Canadians about the critical role of energy security in their daily lives by highlighting how stable and affordable energy supplies support economic stability, protect against disruptions, and strengthen Canada’s international partnerships.
