On the occasion of President Biden’s visit to Canada, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s President and CEO, Perrin Beatty, issued the following statement today:

“We welcome President Biden’s visit to Ottawa as an opportunity to renew the partnership our countries have enjoyed for generations. That partnership includes a mutually beneficial and strategic relationship with common goals and visions. By working together, we can tackle our greatest challenges and leverage our greatest opportunities, for the benefit of our economies and our societies.

As each other’s closest international partners, both Canada and the United States will benefit from stronger bilateral alliance.

In the present international security context, a common North American approach to addressing the most important global challenges, including energy security, climate change, and international peace, is vital. Deepening our cooperation on these fronts will be essential to meeting the current threats to a rules-based international order and for supporting our allies.

And by resisting protectionist measures and strengthening our economic relationship, Canada and the United States can bolster mutual competitiveness, promote economic growth, and build resilient cross-border supply chains that help us achieve a prosperous net-zero economy.

A secure and efficient flow of goods and people across the border remains critical for both countries. Canada is a trusted trading partner to the United States in a wide range of strategically important areas, including through our vast natural resource wealth and expertise.

Business must be a key partner with a strong voice in the Canada-US relationship. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce is committed to promoting the bilateral relationship, and to deepening economic cooperation between our two countries.
