Indo-Pacific region holds great potential for Canada – Canadian Chamber of Commerce

(OTTAWA) – 09 November 2022 – The Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s President and CEO, Perrin Beatty, today issued the following statement in response to an announcement on Canada’s Indo-Pacific strategy from Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly:

“In her speech, Minister Joly recognizes that China is a strategic rival to Canada and the other democracies, but also that we need to continue to talk with one another and to collaborate when it is in our interests. As the Minister suggests, each business needs to consider carefully how and when to do business in China.

We welcome the government’s commitment to broaden and deepen Canada’s engagement in the Indo-Pacific region, including in India. This region holds great potential for Canada, including for Canadian businesses, and we look forward to working with the government in both diversifying and strengthening our economic activities in the Indo-Pacific.”
