Susannah Pierce, President & Country Chair, Shell Canada

Canadian Business Leader of the Year Honouree

Susannah Pierce has spent the last 20 years of her career at the intersection of what is now known as environmental, social and governance interests in Canada and abroad. Her expertise lies in bringing business, governments, communities, Indigenous groups and other non-governmental actors together to support the development of large natural resource projects. Susannah was instrumental in securing the final investment decision for LNG Canada, the only large LNG export facility to be built in Canada today. While serving as President and Country Chair, Susannah is also Vice President, Emerging Energy Solutions for Canada at Shell. In this capacity, she is responsible for integrating Shell’s diverse portfolio of investments and projects in Canada as well as supporting Shell’s growth pillar which invests in renewable power, carbon capture sequestration and renewable fuels including hydrogen and nature-based systems.

Susannah is currently Chair of the Business Council of BC, Director of Business Council of Canada, on the Advisory Board of Catalyst and the Canadian Global Affairs Institute and Director of the Wilder Institute and Calgary Zoo.

Al Monaco, Former President & CEO, Enbridge

Canadian Business Leader Lifetime Achievement Honouree

Appointed as President, Chief Executive Officer and a Director of Enbridge in 2012, Al Monaco has led Enbridge through a period of great transformational growth, combined with an intensified focus on safety, reliability and environmental protection that has positioned Enbridge as North America’s leading diversified energy delivery company.

Al is a Director and member of the Executive Committee of the American Petroleum Institute; a Director of Weyerhaeuser; and a member of the Business Council (U.S.); the U.S. National Petroleum Council, the Business Council of Canada, the Business Council of Alberta and the Catalyst Canada Advisory Board.

Al earned his MBA from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary and is a CPA. He also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Al and his wife Laurie live in Calgary and have three sons.
