Margaret Clare Ryan is a Counsel in the international arbitration and public international law groups at Shearman & Sterling LLP, London.
She represents and advises companies and States in international arbitrations conducted under the auspices of a variety of rules, including the ICC, LCIA, CRCICA, ICSID, SCC and UNCITRAL Rules. Her practice focuses particularly on international investment and energy disputes and matters involving clients and interests in Africa and Europe. Margaret is a member of her firm's Mining and Metals Group and in 2018 was seconded to a major mining company based in London. She regularly publishes and speaks on topics of international commercial and investment treaty arbitration. She is a member of the ICC Task Force on the Probative Value of Witness Evidence.
Margaret is a graduate of the McGill Faculty of Law, where she earned a BCL and LLB. She is Canadian citizen and a member of the New York Bar and a Solicitor in England and Wales. Margaret speaks English, French and German.
