Michael Kotrly

Michael is a Barrister at One Essex Court in London, England. His practice encompasses international arbitration (both commercial and investor-state) and commercial litigation  He has experience in the banking, energy, mining, telecoms, transportation, technology, infrastructure and real estate sectors. Prior to his transfer to the Bar he was a Senior Associate with the International Arbitration Group at a Magic Circle firm in London. Before moving to London, Michael practiced international arbitration and transnational litigation for an international law firm in Dubai and before that had practiced civil litigation and public law litigation in Toronto. He has been repeatedly identified as a Future Leader in International Arbitration by Who’s Who Legal since 2018.

Michael graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of British Columbia. As well as being qualified as Barrister in England and Wales, he is also qualified as a Barrister & Solicitor in Ontario, Canada. He was a member of the ICC Task Force on Maximising the Probative Value of the Witness Evidence in International Arbitration and the co-National Editor of the LexisNexis Commercial Litigation and Arbitration Review. He is a former law clerk to Justice J. Edgar Sexton of the Federal Court of Appeal.
