Canadian Chamber Statement on the Conservative Party’s Commitment to Reversing the Capital Gains Tax Hike
For months, the Canadian Chamber has been warning that the Government’s increase to the capital gains inclusion rate is bad for business.
For months, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce has been warning that the Government’s increase to the capital gains inclusion rate is bad for business. We are seeing the effects of this tax increase now, as Canadians struggle to make decisions ahead of tax season. This is only compounded by the fact that, with prorogation, the CRA lacks clear legislative authority to implement this tax.
At such a sensitive time for Canadians and our businesses, we’re happy to see the Conservative Party of Canada commit to reversing this tax increase to the Capital Gains Inclusion Rate, if elected. Reversing this tax increase will help to bolster investment and entrepreneurship, and signal to the world that Canada is open for business. We encourage the federal government and other political parties to also commit to not implementing this tax
