A strong Western Canada is critical to a strong Canada, and we must act now to set up both the region and the country for a successful future. It was with this spirit in mind that on February 14, the Chamber’s Western Executive Council held its first meeting of 2023 in Saskatoon.
The Council met with the Honourable Dan Vandal, Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada to discuss the importance of the federal government developing a long- term transportation infrastructure strategy to ensure Canadians can get goods – such as food, fuel and fertilizer – to market efficiently and reliably. The Council also discussed the importance of the government needing to move more urgently on regulatory modernization.
The day concluded with members attending the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce’s “Food, Fuel and Fertilizer Business Summit” where members engaged with business leaders on the importance of Canada stepping up to meet the increased demand for the goods the world needs.
The Council will next meet in Ottawa as part of the Canadian Chamber’s Hill Day in Ottawa.
