Today is World Intellectual Property (IP) Day, to help us celebrate, our partners at Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada have shared with us their perspective on our partnership and the importance of the day.

“On April 26, we celebrate World IP Day through highlighting the role that IP rights play in encouraging innovation and creativity. IP rights offer not only protection, but can also drive commercial success. Canadian businesses, whether large or small, should take stock of their IP assets and develop a solid IP strategy.

The Canadian Chamber takes this opportunity to show our continuous effort in raising IP awareness and education among small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). We have developed a strong partnership with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) to reach this objective. Through tailored and responsive products, services and training to SMEs, we are able to ensure that they have the IP knowledge they need to grow, scale up and compete globally. Chambers in the Canadian Chamber network have had the opportunity to host IP awareness sessions to their business members. Together with CIPO and CBA, we look forward to continuing to co-deliver presentations to SMEs and chambers to help Canadian businesses prosper.

Together with CIPO, CBA and the Canadian Chamber, we look forward to continuing to increase IP literacy and access to IP services to support the growth of Canada’s innovation ecosystem and the global competiveness of Canadian innovators.”
