The move to ban replacement workers could have serious consequences for our economy. While we respect the right to collective bargaining, the anti-replacement worker legislation threatens to disrupt our supply chains and critical services.
Canada is losing more hours worked to strikes than it did during the pandemic, according to 2024 data from Scotiabank. We’re calling on all MPs to reconsider the anti-replacement worker legislation, which has the potential to destabilize our economy.
The proposed anti-replacement worker legislation will severely harm our supply chains and economy. Replacement workers are essential to maintaining critical services for Canadians in sectors like trucking, rail, ports, telecom, and air.
Studies across various jurisdictions show that banning replacement workers deters investment, leads to lower wages, fewer job opportunities and increases strikes. We’re calling on all MPs to act in Canada’s best interest to avoid these outcomes.
Liberal and Conservative governments of the past have all avoided passing a legislation like Bill C-58, knowing that it will have profound and lasting impacts on Canada’s economy, business, and everyday Canadians. The government’s own discussion paper on this issue acknowledged that banning replacement workers is likely to mean more frequent strikes and lockouts. We urge them to rethink the legislation and act in the best interest of the country.
