Recap: Private Stampede Roundtable with Minister Hodgson

During the Calgary Stampede, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce convened a private roundtable discussion with the Honourable Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, bringing together senior executives from the Chamber’s Western Executive Council, Energy Security Council, Critical Minerals Council, and Net-Zero Council, as well as other key leaders from Canada’s natural resources and energy sectors.
As one of Minister Hodgson’s first major engagements with industry following the federal election and his appointment to Cabinet, the roundtable provided an important opportunity for business leaders to hear directly from the Minister on the Government of Canada’s vision for strengthening Canada’s position as a global energy superpower and advancing the development of major nation-building projects. Minister Hodgson outlined the government’s priorities for unlocking investment, improving project development processes and enhancing Canada’s competitiveness in energy, critical minerals and natural resource development.
Following the Minister’s remarks, Candace Laing, President and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, moderated a fireside chat that explored the opportunities and challenges facing Canada’s energy and resource sectors in a rapidly evolving global landscape. Participants discussed the role of responsible resource development in driving economic growth, strengthening energy security, attracting investment and supporting Canada’s long-term prosperity.
The session concluded with a roundtable discussion facilitated by Matthew Holmes, Executive Vice President, International and Chief of Public Policy at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. The conversation provided industry leaders with an opportunity to share perspectives on regulatory efficiency, infrastructure development, Indigenous partnerships, investment attraction and the conditions needed to accelerate major projects across the country. The discussion underscored the strong interest from both government and industry in working collaboratively to advance Canada’s economic and energy ambitions while reinforcing its position as a reliable global supplier of energy and critical resources.
