Our Statement on the October 14 Tariffs on Softwood Lumber and Select Furniture
This U.S.’s continued antagonistic approach betrays the spirit of partnership that has made our continental economy strong.
This U.S.’s continued antagonistic approach betrays the spirit of partnership that has made our continental economy strong. Instead of fostering collaboration and prosperity, these punitive 10% tariffs on already heavily tariffed lumber and 25% tariffs on kitchen cabinets and upholstered furniture will drive up costs for American businesses and consumers while hurting Canadian exporters who’ve played by the rules and invested heavily in the U.S. market.
As businesses on both sides of the border run out of strategies to circumvent tariff exposure, they are looking for certainty through CUSMA, hoping to see a renewed commitment to stable trade.
