Our Statement on Bill C-5 Passing the Senate

Streamlining internal trade and getting big projects built are critical for ensuring economic and energy security.

June 26, 2025

We commend Parliamentarians in the Senate and House of Commons for the constructive and efficient use of the legislative process to get Bill C-5, An Act to enact the Free Trade and Labour Mobility in Canada Act and the Building Canada Act passed at a time when Canada needs an economic jumpstart. This Bill has the potential to overcome domestic challenges that have held the Canadian economy back for decades. Streamlining internal trade and getting big projects built are critical for ensuring economic and energy security — particularly as the future is increasingly characterized by an uncertain geoeconomic and geopolitical landscape.

At the same time as we move forward with this positive development, we remind and call on the government to ensure that these powers are used responsibly and in full compliance with the rights of Indigenous communities and with environmental standards. Large projects get done in partnership, and — when done right — will bring national interest dividends for generations to come.
