Our Reaction to Canada’s Selection of TKMS for Its Next Submarine Fleet
Decisiveness has won the day.

Decisiveness has won the day. Canada needed to make a decision for the sake of our national defence, confidence in the procurement system, and living up to our NATO commitments.
The last time we purchased brand-new submarines was the 1960s. The story of defence procurement in Canada is a story of kicking the can down the road. This needs to change once and for all. Decisions must be made faster than a decade, like with some other defence procurement streams.
With this decision settled, we need to build our robust defence industry and improved procurement system. This should not be the beginning of another 60-year cycle of defence delays and underinvestment.
And, with our talent, we are well set up to benefit from jobs and as suppliers. Our defence industry is ready to do more to support our national needs and those of our global allies.
