Our Commitment to Supporting NATO

Collective defence among North American and European nations is integral to the prosperity of our economies and the security of our people.

June 24, 2025

For generations, Canadian’s have fought alongside American and European allies to defend our national security and protect freedom and human rights around the world. From the beaches of Normandy to the hills of Afghanistan, now to Ukraine, NATO countries have worked together, to ensure our way of life is preserved for generations to come.

Collective defence among North American and European nations is integral to the prosperity of our economies and the security of our people. In the decades since NATO’s founding, the global economy has grown more integrated, and the strength of our economies has come to depend on the strength of our democracies. The unfortunate truth is that geopolitical tensions have escalated, and safety and stability are no longer guaranteed. In such an uncertain environment, it is imperative Canada shore up our domestic defences while also meaningfully participating in transatlantic security and defence.

While geography separates us, business speaks a common language. Canadians representing key sectors of the Canadian defence sector and business community have descended on the 2025 NATO Summit in the Hague, committed to a united, public-private partnership that will ensure our militaries have the best technology and equipment anywhere in the world. Together, in collaboration with our military leaders, we will ensure our men and women have the tools, equipment and support they need to deploy successfully, and come home safety to their families.

Today, Canadian business, represented by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, and our counterparts at the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers, Business Europe, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce came together in one common language to issue an ambition statement. The statement outlines our commitment to supporting NATO’s defence industrial capacity, collaborating across industry, to rearm Europe and Canada.

Together, the business community of NATO allies will foster an innovative, competitive and sustainable economy across Europe and North America, contributing to the prosperity, security and resilience of the transatlantic economy and alliance as a whole.
