(OTTAWA) – February 19, 2020 – The Honourable Perrin Beatty, PC, OC, issued the following statement today regarding the ongoing rail blockades:
“Yesterday, the Canadian Chamber joined 33 other business associations in sending an open letter to the Prime Minister, urging the government to take immediate action to get the Canadian economy moving again
By midday today, the number of signatories increased by 11 to reach 44 business associations from across the country, and from across all sectors, as businesses everywhere increasingly feel the impacts of these blockades. Together, the members of these associations employ millions of Canadians, who are also beginning to be impacted.
The damage done to the Canadian economy, to businesses and to ordinary Canadians continues to grow. Every hour that the shutdowns continue, more people are being hurt. We must act quickly and decisively, and we need real leadership from the federal government, working with provincial and territorial governments, Indigenous leaders and law enforcement agencies, to achieve an immediate end to the blockades.”
