Canadian Chamber Calls for Firm Government Commitment to Reverse Capital Gains

The Canadian Chamber has been calling out the uncertainty caused by the Capital Gains tax hike since it was first proposed last year.

January 31, 2025

The Canadian Chamber and our network of Chambers across the country has been calling out the uncertainty caused by this tax hike since it was first proposed last year. While today’s deferral provides some certainty to Canadians for this tax season, it does not negate the harmful impacts of this proposed tax increase on our economy over the long term as we face the significant threat of tariffs. At this critical time, we need to do everything in our power to invigorate our economy, not continue to implement self-defeating policies that signal to the world Canada is not open for business. Whether you’re a start-up entrepreneur, a family business, or a community doctor, Canada’s investment and business environment is better without this increased tax.
