The Canadian Frontier, Then, Now, Next: Canada’s Role in International Arbitration

This year’s conference will take place at the Fairmont Montréal, QC. The ICC Canada Arbitration Committee’s long-standing annual conference brings together international dispute resolution practitioners, corporate counsel and arbitrators based around the world for interactive discussion and debate on cutting-edge topics in international dispute resolution, not to mention a hefty dose of merriment, libations and camaraderie among friends old and new.

The conference will kick-off on October 7 with a YCAP Symposium.

The main Conference will take place on October 8, 2026 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Queen Elizabeth Fairmont. Followed by a Reception.

Dinner (ticketed dinner) will be held on the evening of October 8, after the main Conference.

TheAnnual General Meeting (open only to Members of the ICC Arbitration Committee) will take place on October 9. How to Join the Arbitration Committee.

Benedict is an English- and Ontario-qualified disputes lawyer. His broad practice includes international arbitration, commercial litigation and administrative law matters, as well as a range of business and human rights issues.

Benedict has experience of international law and investor-state disputes, advising and representing clients on matters governed by the rules of UNCITRAL, the ICC, LCIA, and ADRIC as well as ad hoc arbitrations under various Canadian statutes. He also regularly advises clients on conflict-of-laws and jurisdictional issues, and has appeared before a range of courts in Canada and the UK.


Emily Sherkey, Senior Associate

Emily’s practice focuses on litigation and dispute resolution in a variety of areas, with a particular focus on investor-state arbitration, international commercial arbitration, and corporate/commercial litigation.

Emily has considerable experience in both domestic and international commercial arbitrations, as well as international investment arbitrations conducted under various bilateral and multilateral treaties. She is also involved in set-aside and enforcement proceedings. Additionally, Emily regularly provides advice on matters related to investment protection. Her expertise includes commercial and investment arbitrations with several institutions, including the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), and in ad hoc arbitrations.
