Exactly one week ago, Canada’s leading business and thought leaders convened in Toronto for our inaugural Canada 360° Economic Summit. Canada 360° is about amplifying those voices and putting their ideas into action to foster the economic growth that supports our families, communities and country. While there may have been too many takeaways to count, here are a few.

The conversations the CEOs at Canada 360° had were rooted from the perspective that as Canadians, they play a critical role in improving our society. Discussions focused on:

  • Canada’s place in the world amid a changing global economy
  • Canada’s declining level of competitiveness
  • Canada’s role as a nation of innovators in an increasingly disruptive economy

A major highlight of the day was our keynote speech from geopolitical risk expert Ian Bremmer, founder and president of Eurasia Group. Those in attendance were struck by his conviction that we are at a real tipping point in terms of globalization, and what appears to be emerging is a new hybrid form of globalization. Ian let us know that we might be in for a bit of a rough ride as we go through a number of global structural changes, but he made sure to share just how Canada can navigate this transformation.

Canada 360° also included a debate on the topic of the old economy versus the new economy as well as insights from political leaders and panel discussions on the economy, competitiveness and innovation.

The takeaways from Canada 360°, tied in with our Roadmap to Prosperity, will shape our upcoming advocacy work to help businesses thrive. Stay tuned because later this month, we will be releasing a report highlighting the key policy issues discussed at the event.
