Every other week, we release 5 Minutes for Business, a publication written by Hendrik Brakel, our Senior Director of Economic, Financial and Tax Policy. This week we are pleased to welcome guest writer Katrina Marsh our Director of Natural Resources & Environmental Policy. As the entire world waits Donald Trump’s first day in office, we can’t help but pose a series of “What if” questions. One question begging for an answer is how Trump’s presidency will affect the worldwide agenda on climate change?
As countries agreed to limit rising temperatures in the UN’s 2015 Paris Agreement, it appears as though the climate agenda had gained considerable momentum. With President-elect Trump making his transition to the White House, the concern is that he will transform the U.S. from a driver of international momentum on climate to a roadblock that could trigger global ramifications. For Canadians, Prime Minister Trudeau’s approach thus far has been to continue with no signs of changing course. He will need to consider how best to react to both the threats and opportunities inherent in this American change of heart.
Read 5 Minutes for Business to find out what Canada must do to ensure that uncoordinated policies do not erode competitiveness.
