Today’s Cabinet shuffle demonstrates Prime Minister Harper’s continued focus on sustaining the momentum behind Canada’s relatively strong economic performance and in potential growth opportunities for our country. The Prime Minister has left key portfolios, including Finance, International Trade and Foreign Affairs with ministers who have proven their strength in managing through extremely difficult times or their commitment to pursuing new opportunities for Canada.
At the same time, he has moved ministers who have shown their ability to move Canada forward in other portfolios to departments that are critical to our economy. Examples include James Moore in Industry and Jason Kenney in Employment and Social Development, both of whom have performed strongly in their previous portfolios. There are also several new members of Cabinet who will bring fresh ideas and renewed energy to their departments.
The Canadian Chamber congratulates all of the members of the Cabinet. We look forward to continuing our work with those ministers who have stayed in their portfolios as well as working with those who have taken on new responsibilities in our efforts to represent the interest of Canada’s businesses, the Canadians they employ and the communities they serve.
