Comprised of members with expertise in particular fields and Canadian Chamber policy experts, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s policy committees research and develop policies on a variety of issues that affect Canadian business and are of importance to Canadian Chamber members. The committees’ viewpoints are then communicated to Canadian Chamber members, federal government officials, foreign governments, the Canadian public, and the media.

Mandate:

  • To monitor and respond to issues and proposals in the field of competition law and policy.
  • To respond to the federal government, Competition Bureau and Competition Tribunal initiatives.

Economic Policy Committee

Mandate:

  • Serves in a solely advisory capacity. Committee membership consists of practicing economists from business, academia, consultancies and non-governmental organizations that are members of the Canadian Chamber.
  • To consider, report on, and makes recommendations on issues related to national economic policy with particular reference to monetary and fiscal policy, productivity and competitiveness.
  • To review and provide input to submissions on monetary and fiscal matters for presentation to the federal government.
  • To comment and provide advice on resolutions submitted by the Canadian Chamber network.
  • To liaise with the Taxation Committee on fiscal policy and with other Canadian Chamber committees on matters of national economic importance.

Innovations Committee

Mandate:

  • To work on international and domestic policy related to electronic commerce and telecommunications.
  • To serve as the focus of the relationship on electronic commerce issues for business input into OECD and other international forums.
  • To work with the Canadian government to interpret and implement policies and programs that ensure Canada maintains its position as a global leader in electronic commerce and telecommunications.

Ottawa Liaison Committee

Mandate:

  • To maintain liaison with senior federal government officials and politicians by way of informal “off the record” meetings.
  • To secure information with respect to current or upcoming federal government legislative, policy or other actions that will be of assistance to the Canadian Chamber and its members.
  • To supplement the work of the Canadian Chamber policy committees, working directly with various federal government departments.
  • To raise with the federal government matters not assigned to Canadian Chamber policy committees.

Taxation Committee

Mandate:

  • Consists of tax practitioners from the large professional services firms, tax lawyers, and tax specialists from industry.
  • To consider and report on matters of federal concern in the field of taxation.
  • To formulate recommendations for the implementation of Canadian Chamber policy in the taxation field.
  • To review and provide input to submissions to the federal government on tax-related matters.
  • To comment and provide advice on resolutions submitted by the Canadian Chamber network.
  • To liaise with the Economic Policy Committee and other Canadian Chamber committees on matters related to taxation.
